A Chinese delegation led by the Deputy President of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, Liu Junfeng, held a working session with the Head of the Togolese Government, Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé, in her office on Monday 3 June 2024. The working session enabled both parties to take stock of programmes and projects implemented in Togo with China’s support.

The two officials assessed the status of implementation of the initiatives and programmes, which were launched at the 8th Ministerial Conference of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) in Senegal in 2021. The event enabled China to get a sense of African countries’ intent to leverage on FOCAC to boost energy production, water development, increase agricultural production, and put irrigation systems in place.

Deputy President Liu Junfeng congratulated Togo for implementing these projects and reechoed the Government of China’s readiness and greater commitment to ensuring that these projects and programmes are jointly and successfully implemented by both parties.

On behalf of the President of the Republic, H.E.M. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé and that of the Togolese Government, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the brotherly and friendly people of the People’s Republic of China for their insightful cooperation, which have materialized in the areas of infrastructure, trade, health, water supply, agriculture and security.

She praised the expansion works at the Lomé Gnassingbé Eyadéma international airport, the finishing touches to Track 2 of the Lomé bypass road, the construction of the administrative block and the auditorium at the Togo Broadcasting Corporation, and the rehabilitation of the
Kégué stadium.
