On Thursday 5 December 2024, Prime Minister Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé, leading a delegation of Togolese economic operator, participated in London in a high-level anglophone investors’ round table on Togo. The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) initiative aims to promote trade with Togolese private operators and attract foreign investment to Togo.

In her keynote address, the Prime Minister presented the 2025 Government priority projects and Gorvenment’s preferred partnership arrangements for implementing them. Issues discussed include preferred financing mechanisms put forward to Commonwealth investors, such as Public Private Partnerships, concessional funds and ‘joint ventures’ between the two private sectors in priority areas such as infrastructure, water, energy and education, were discussed.

According to the Prime Minister, the round table calls for a partnership that thrives on trust, innovation and shared prosperity.

She reiterated Togo’s firm commitment to supporting investment in Togo.

“We are ready to work hand in hand to turn opportunities into success stories. I warmly invite you to come and discover the potentials the country has. Togo is a natural gateway to West Africa. Investing in Togo means gaining access to the sub-region’s markets. Through its deep-water port, which is the largest in West Africa and the 4th largest in Africa, Togo connects the entire African continent and the rest of the world. Thanks to our airport, which serves some thirty destinations, we offer connections from the Lomé hub. Togo’s strategic position gives you access to a market of 400 million people, as Togo is the heart of West Africa, as well as to a wider market thanks to AfCFTA,” declared the head of government.

The country is undergoing further modernisation with road, port and airport infrastructures. The Adétikopé industrial hub also offers huge opportunities for investors, with a one-stop shop to save time.

For his part, the President of the Togo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIT), José Kwassi Symenouh, called on Togolese economic operators to partner with Commonwealth investors.

“The Prime Minister was kind enough to invite Togolese businesspeople to come to London. We have met with British economic operators. The aim is to create partnerships to enable British entrepreneurs to come to Togo and for Togolese people to benefit from their expertise and create wealth,” he said.

Speaking on behalf British businessmen, the Commonwealth Business and Investment Council thanked Togo for the opportunity to gain more investment insights about the country.

“Let me seize this opportunity to thank Her Excellency the Prime Minister for her visit to the Commonwealth business community to discuss business opportunities in Togo. She said that there is no better time to do business in Togo. We have had fantastic, interactive discussions and we look forward to greater partnership prospects between Togo and Commonwealth investors who are ready to invest in Togo, a country full of opportunities,” said Pride Azefor, Director of Trade and Investment at the Commonwealth Business and Investment Council.

The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) was established in July 2014 with the support of the Commonwealth General Secretariat and member governments. It is a not-for-profit organisation tasked by Commonwealth Heads of Government to promote trade, investment and the role of the private sector across the 56 member States.
