On the sidelines of the 37th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, Prime Minister Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé took part in a presidential round table on ways to unleash the potential of Africa’s green wealth for the continent to play its part in addressing climate change.

African countries need $250 billion per year between now and 2030 to implement their nationally determined contribution plans, as against the current $29.5 billion per year. Such funding gap must be filled through innovative financing methods to make the most of African countries’ green resources.

The presidential round table brought together Heads of State and Government, including Prime Minister Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé, who deputized for the Head of State, H.E.M. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. The Heads of State and Government advocate for resource mobilisation and the need to step up efforts to tackle climate change.

The leaders agreed on a strategic awareness-raising and advocacy plan to support the said initiative at continental and global levels. The plan will include the adoption of the African position to be presented at key upcoming fora such as COP29, the United Nations General Assembly, G20 and G7 meetings.

The initiative is supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group.
