The Head of the Government, Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé, met in her office on Thursday 16 May 2024 the new President of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), Kwao Ohini Sanvee. He led a delegation of the new executive committee. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the members of the new executive committee. CNDH is a constitutional institution whose mandate is to promote human rights in Togo.
The new bureau, which was set up on 25 April, met with the Prime Minister to discuss ways to work together more effectively to defend and promote human rights in Togo.
“The CNDH new executive bureau was installed since 25 April and in keeping with republican practice, it has become common practice to pay courtesy calls on the country’s highest authorities. We seized the opportunity to discuss current burning issues and few urgent projects, in particular the ones relating to the strengthening and protection of political and civil rights, and the promotion of economic and socio-cultural rights. Today, the ambition of our populations is to live a better life, which refers back to these rights. In spite of efforts being made by our authorities, much remains to be done in terms of the rights to education, work, the environment, security and social protection,” underlined Mr Sanvee.
The new president has no doubts that the mechanisms that already exist will enable the institution to further support the government in improving these rights and enabling citizens to enjoy them more fully.
