The framework document was signed by Prime Minister Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé, representing the Head of State, H.E.M. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, and the Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland. Henceforth, Togo will now benefit from the expertise and support of the English-speaking institution in a number of areas.
The Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland welcomed the Head of the Government Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé on arrival at Marlborough House, the Commonwealth headquarters in London. The two personalities then held talks followed by a working session open to both delegations. It all ended with the signing of framework agreement.
The comprehensive cooperation framework agreement sets out priority areas for Commonwealth support to Togo. These include artificial intelligence and digital transformation, renewable energy and climate finance, youth, skills development and human capital, capacity-building in international contract negotiation, and support for building the capacities of the institutions of the Fifth Republic.
After the signing ceremony, the Head of the Government expressed delight at the successful conclusion of the process. Speaking on behalf of the President of the Republic and of the government she expressed gratitude to the Secretary General of the Commonwealth and to the entire Commonwealth team for their outstanding efforts towards the signing of the agreement. She reassured the Commonwealth of the government’s unwavering commitment in making sure that the people reap the full benefits of the agreement.
