Fruitful discussions between Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé and Gilbert Houngbo in Geneva

On the sidelines of the work of the International Labor Organization Summit on social justice in Geneva, Switzerland, the head of government Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé had several bilateral talks and working sessions. She spoke this Wednesday, June 14, 2023 with the Director General of the ILO, former Togolese Prime Minister Gilbert Foussoun Houngbo.

“It is a great and very special honor for me to welcome my compatriot, Her Excellency Ms. Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé Prime Minister. Togo is resolutely committed to the path of sustainable development based on the values of the ILO. current preparation of a social stability pact for inclusive growth is the latest manifestation of this. The effects of this commitment at the highest level of the State are visible with a poverty rate which has declined sharply between 2006 and 2022.”, said Gilbert Foussoun Houngbo, Director-General of the ILO.

He praised the inclusion policy initiated by the government under the leadership of the Head of State, His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé.

“The ambitious policy of the government that you are leading in the areas of social protection as well as the efforts for the transition to the formal economy highlights your concerns, Madam Prime Minister, for social justice.”, he added.

The head of government also met with the Assistant to the Director General of the International Labor Office (ILO), Ms. Mia SEPPO. The meeting allowed the two personalities to discuss Togo’s commitment to the social protection floor initiative. Social protection in Togo also involves the biometric identification of individuals with a unique social register for targeting beneficiaries of social programs.
