People in the Vo prefecture marked their haverst received from Mother Earth on the occasion of their traditional festival, “Ahadzinukuza.” The event was celebrated with great joy. The 38th Adzinukuza festival reached its climax on Saturday 31 August 2024 at the Vogan municipal stadium in the presence of Prime Minister Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé, representing the President of the Republic, H.E. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé.
The Adzinukuza festival celebrates the first harvest in the entire Vo prefecture. According to the organising committee, this year’s harvest has been abundant. The event also offered the opportunity for local people to showcase their cultural values and identities. Adzinukuza is also a unique opportunity for the sons and daughters in Vo to thank God for his protection and the abundant harvest.
On behalf of the Government, Koamy Gomado, Minister for Land Use and Development, wished the people of Vo a happy holiday. According to Minister Gomado, Adzinukuza symbolises the gratitude of the daughters and sons to the spirits of their ancestors who helped bring in the bountiful harvest.
“Today’s large-scale mobilisation demonstrates this attachment to your cultural heritage and to enhance the value of the legacy you received from your ancestors and which binds you together like an umbilical cord. You owe it to yourselves not only to protect it, but also to pass it on to future generations for it to be safeguarded,” declared Minister Gomado.
Tasting of local dishes and performances by various folk groups were the highlights of the celebrations.
