Prime Minister Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé held talks with the Acting Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Togo (UNFPA), Dr Edwige Adekambi-Domingo on Tuesday 6 August 2024.
Discussions focused on the cooperation ties between the United Nations Population Fund and Togo, which are on sound footing.
“We exchanged views on the UNFPA mandate. This year, the Fund will assist countries to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ICPD, the International Conference on Population and Development. We must further commit to assisting the country in implementing its roadmap. Our talks also focused on women and the young people in particular, with a view to ensuring that the volunteer project serves as a springboard not only for employment, but also for promoting youth support to communities in implementing government programmes. By so doing, we must create jobs for them. We further discussed issues relating to maternal health, and we have made commitments to ensuring that Togo’s roadmap serves as the compass for UNFPA programming processes” explained Dr Edwige Adekambi-Domingo.
She seized the opportunity to congratulate Togo for the recent conduct of the general population and housing census. According to her, “the outcomes of the census are now used for decision making based on real data. They are also used for preempting demographic projections, an ongoing research being carried out by INSEED.
